Sir Humphrey Gilbert, Ferdinand George, Walter Raleigh

Sir Humphrey Gilbert was born on 1539, In Devon, England. Humphrey was the best known for claiming the first piece of land for the English from the new world, Newfoundland. Newfoundland was claimed in 1583, during the rule of queen Elizabeth I. Unfortunately, the colony did not have any gold or any real beneficial resources; therefore; it collapsed pretty quickly. The Indian population of Newfoundland during the time is unknown. Newfoundland was a Proprietary colony.

Sir Ferdinand Gorges was born in 1568 through out most of his life he was busy from the start of 1588 which was the defeat of the Spanish armada. Ferdinand Helped the British obtain new land such as maine even though he did not set foot to the Americas once. Ferdinand Claimed land for the English by providing funds for different companies (Colonies). Gorges lived most of his improtant days during the rules of King James I and king Charles I

Sire Walter Raleigh Was born in 1554. He went to go an expedition at Roanoke Island which was considered a failure. He tried again with a better group of colonizers that was governed by John White. John white was going back to England to pick up supplies but then he ran into so many delays such as the Spanish armada interfering, the crew hoping to find treasures in Cuba, and then he found out the colonists had left the settlement leaving Croatoan as a written clue, yet White was never able to investigate due to a hurricane.

  2. Well I am not exactly sure but my theory is that since he was part of the "Council for England",a group that encouraged other people to establish colonies so they won't have to,he never really found the need to sail to the Americas.

  3. The reason the three colonies failed was because their objective was to find gold; where other colonies were finding land to settle in for religious freedom.

  4. Did these men ever have to engage in war with Natives?

  5. The three colonies were greedy and wanted to find riches fast thus insinuating that they would not prosper as the other colonies that based their settlement on religious freedom.
